Edit: I thought i'd better put an introduction on this. This is project lego.. the name comes from the fact that i am quite surprised and happy the way so many different bits from several cars fit together so well..
Happy reading, and dont expect regular updates or anything, if progress to date is anything to go by..

About November 2007 my clutch packed in my daily driver, a Pasadena Blue 1.3 mk2.

The mk2 lay outside the house for a few months, and its neglected state started to annoy me.. I investigated possible engine swaps, briefly considering fitting an 8v gti engine. Gave that a miss, and decided to build something that didn't ever roll out of a show room. More time passed until i spotted a mk3 gti 16v for sale on here, early in Feb 2008.. The body of the car was rough, but it seemed a healthy runner.

Got a lift up, (cheers t.d) bought the car and drove it home, an entertaining trip.

So, finally, i am going to fit the Abf to the golf.

I have abandoned the idea of going widetrack, so a am using a diesel subframe and wishbones, mk3 gti 280mm brakes, Abf engine, mk2 gti 8v gearbox, mk3 tank and lift pump. I modified the mk3 servo to fit the mk2 pedal. Using the rear brakes off the gti, gonna fit them to the mk2 also.

Its gonna be slow progress, but i'm hoping to have it ready for the summer..

Or next christmas at least..

I've a few more up to date photos to post up, but it's late, i'll leave them for another night..

Long time, no update..

Made it to Inters..
Lashed it up the drap strip, for the craic, as you do..

Best run of all was 7.44 seconds 0-60mph and 15.91 second 1/4 mile, which i was pretty happy with, as you might guess..

So then i decided to check it out on the rollers and see what power my engine had left..

The standard ABF engine has 150bhp and 133lb/ft
Mine came out as having 178bhp and 165lb/ft..

I'm thinking its got cams, because i cant get it to tick over perfectly, but to be honest i've no idea whats been done to it..

Its run perfectly for the last 2500 miles, apart from breaking a clutch cable while sitting traffic in Kells.. (a second hand one with 250k or so..)
I've still to fit the rear disc beam, but i cant fault the brakes at all.

Overall its a lovely machine, few things i'd like to tidy up yet though..
However, it'll be going in the shed for the winter, 35mpg long term average isint good enough for me..
